Epiphyte, 2.5-3 cm tall ; pseudobulls ovoid, 1.5-2 cm across. Leaves oblong-obovate, 10-12 cm long, 2 cm wide. Inflorescence 15-17 cm long, 15-20-flowered. Flowers 1.5 cm across. Sepals and petals pale yellow. Lip darl yellow.

Hill evergreen forest in the north and northeast ; flowering from December-January.

Distribution : Myanmar.

Terrestrial orchid, 5-12 cm tall. Leaves oblong-ellptic, 7-12 cm long, 2-4 cm broad. Inflorescence erect, 20-50 cm long. Flowers 1.5-2 cm across. Sepals and petals recurved pinkish-white to reddish-purple or white. Lip reddish-purple.
Among rocks in hill evergreen forest or beach forests in every region ; flowering from June-november
Distribution : S. China and SE. Asia.

Epiphyte ; stem short ; roots large. Leaves elliptic-obovate, 10-12 cm long, 4-5 cm wide. Inflorescence 4-6 flowered. Flowers 1-2 cm across. Sepals and petals white. Side lobe erect, yellow with brown spots. Lip ressidh-purple, margin white, with yellow patches at middle.

A rare species, distributed in dry evergreen and limestone forest in the north and west.

Distribution : Along Himalayan ridges and Myanmar.

Epiphyte ; stem short. Leaves elliptic-lanceolate, 5-15 cm long, 3-6 cm wide. Inflorescence 2-3-flowered. Flowers 1.5-1.8 cm across. Sepals, petals and lip yellowish-white with purplish dotted-steaks. Petals shorter than sepals. Lip 3-lobed ; side lobe erect ; mid-lobe elliptic.

Distribution : An endemic species to evergreen forests of northeastern Thailand ; flowering from March-May.

Epiphyte ; stem short ; roots attach along substrate. Leaves elliptic-obovate, 10-12 cm long, 3.5-4.5 wide. Inflorescence arising from the base, 10-15 cm long, 5-10 flowered. Flowers 0.8-1.0 cm across. Sepals and petals white. Side lobes short, yellow with brown spots ; mid-lobe white with yellow marking ; flowering from January - February.

Distribution : Vietnam and Laos.

Terrestrial orchid up to 1 m tall, strm completely covered by the overlapping bases of the leaves. Leaves linear, 18-30 cm long. 1.5-2.5 cm wide. Inflorescence up to 30 cm long, lax, 15-30 flowered. Flowers 2.5 cm across, white with reddish-pink marking. Lip with white hairs.

Swamp forest and dry evergreen forest in the east and south ; flowering almost all year round.

Distribution : Malaysia and the philippines.

Epiphyte, 10-17 cm tall. Leaves linear, unequal-lobed, 7.5-9 cm long, 1.5-2 cm wide. Inflorescence axillary 10-15 cm long, 5-12 flowered. Flowers white, 1.1 cm across. Lip with yellow and pinkish tint at lip, apex narrow.

Distribution : An endemic species to Thailand, distributed in moist evergreen forest in the north and northeast ; flowering in April.

Terrestrial orchid, 15-20 cm tall, 4-5 leaved. Leaves oblong-elliptic, 15-20 cm long, 8-12 cm wide. Ihflorescence terminal, 20-30 cm high, many-flowered. Flowers 0.5-0.7 cm across, reddish-purple. Column yellow.

Wet areas of hill evergreen forest in every region ; flowering from June - September.

Distribution : SE. Asia.

Terrestrial orchid, chlorophylless, 18-20 cm tall, Inflorescence terminal. Sepals orange-pink. Petals pale pink. Lip white with pink at base. Column cream. Capsule stalks prolonged.

Distribution : An endemic species, scattered in hill everfreen forest of northern Thailand ; flowering from February-April.

Upon the Royal visit of Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn to Sri Lanka, in August, 1999 ; the Sri Lanka government asked royal permission to name an excellent orchid hybrid after Her Royal Highness's name. The presentation and celebration were made at The Royal Botanical Garden Perdeniya, in Candy.

Phalaenopsis Princess Chulabhorn is an elegant hybrid of Phalaenopsis Rose Miva and Phalaenopsis Kandy Queen, the two famous and outstanding races of Sri Lanka.

Epiphytic orchid. Inflorescence 30-45 cm long. Flowers white, with charming pink color at the middle and fainter toward the edge ; broadly orbicular, 7.5-9 cm across ; lip broadens, yellow color at the edge red - purplish dots sparse at the middle ; basal part 2 wings, apical part terete to two filiform threads.

Terrestrial orchid, 10-25 cm high. Leaves broadly ovate, 8-10 parallel nevers, blade with purplish-red patches all over. Inflorescence 10-30 cm high, 4-12 flowered. Flowers pink to pinkish-white : wings broadly orbicular, greenish-pink : lip sparse with red and pinkish-red colour, apical part expands to 3 shallow lobes, 10-11 mm ; pollinia large ; spur funnel form, slightly curved, 11-14 mm.

A new spicies, endemic to limestone mountain at Doi Chiang Dao, Chiang Mai, in northern Thailand, at elevations of 1,800-2,000 m. Flowering from April to June.

Terresttrial orchid, 12-40 cm high. Leaves broadly oblong-elliptic, 12-20 parallel nevers, blade sparse with purplish-red patches. Inflorescence 10-25 cm high, 6-40 flowered. Flowers pinkish-white with pinkish-red dots, apical part expands to 3 distinct lobes ; spur funnel form, staight and slightly curved, shorter than 8 mm.

A new species, distributed along limestone ranges, from nortern Thailand, Shan State in northern Myanmar, and Yunnan in Shuthern China ; at elevations of 800-2,200 m. Flowering from March to June.

Terrestrial orchid, 27-34 cm high. Leaves broadly ovate, 8-12 parallel nevers, blade with purp;ish-red patches all over. Inflorescence up to 40 cm high, 10-36 flowered. Flowers pinkish-white and light green, 1.5 cm : lip pink and fainted at the edge : basal part and curved abruptly at the terminal end, 8-9 mm long.

A new spicies, endemic to limestone mountain at Doi Hua Mud, Tak, in the lower part of northen Thailand, at elevations of 1,000 m. Flowering from Apil to June.

Epiphytic orchid, pseudobulbs cylindrical, 7-10 cm high, 2 cm across. Leaves elliptic-oblong, 10-12 cm broad. Inflorescence 12-15 cm long. Flowers 1-1.5 cm across;pedicel hairy. Sepals and petals yellowish-brown, with dark red veints. Lip dark red tints at base.

In dry evergreen forest and mixed deciduous forest in northern and northeastern regions; flowering period from February-March.

Distribution : India, China, SE.Asia and Indochina.

Queen Sirikit Cattleya



Cattleya 'Queen Sirikit' is a stunning elegent hybrid of Cattleya Bow Bells and Cattleya O'brieniana var. alba, produced by Black and Flory Ltd. Co., Great Britain, in 1958.

Recived Award of Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society, london, and the Royal permission to name Cattleya 'Queen Sirikit'

Epiphytic orchid, 20-40 cm high. Flowers large, white and fragrant, 12-14 cm across, lip broad, margin undulate, with golden yellow throat, flowering all year round.
